Why Isn’t My Valid Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Card Not Working?

Pennsylvania medical marijuana card holders often complain about the fact their perfectly valid medical marijuana cards usually stop working or become inactive a few days before the actual expiry date of the card. At CertaMD, we have seen thousands of such complaints and know exactly what the issue is. The Pennsylvania Department of Health which governs the state’s medical marijuana program sends a reminder for renewal to all registered medical marijuana patients 60 days prior to the actual date of expiry. Now, if you got certified by your physician on March 15, 2021, and received your PA medical marijuana card a few days later with an expiry date of March 21, 2022, your card should be valid and active till its expiry date, right? Actually, no. The Pennsylvania Department of Health considers the date of your certification as the starting date of your card’s validity. This means that your card will automatically become inactive on March 15, 2022. The expiry date is the absolute deadline for applying for a renewal as you’ll have to apply for a new card after that. Remember, once you receive the 60-day reminder to renew your card, you can process your card renewal application within this period and it’ll remain active and working for another year!
